Meeting People Where They Are
I've spent nearly twenty years in the nonprofit sector across organizations focused on education, healthcare, and human services. Today, my work is centered on supporting people in realizing their educational and career goals while advancing research into person-centered practice. My journey has been deeply shaped by my experience as a first-generation college graduate and family members who set powerful examples for the importance of giving back and investing in the communities in which we live and work.
People arrive knowing more about their own lives than any assessment will tell me. Most of my work is vocational rehabilitation, walking alongside youth and adults with disabilities as they decide what work they want and how to get there, usually inside systems that were not built around them. The teaching and the dissertation come from the same place: how a practitioner sees a person shapes what that person is ever offered, and most of us never examine it.
